Standing Committees are discussion or "think tank" committees, which prepare recommendations for the CFFO Executive Board and Provincial Council. These recommendations potentially provide the basis of, or contribute to, official Federation policy statements. Generally, each of these committees meets from three to six times annually.
Periodically, Study Sessions or Ad Hoc Meetings focusing on specific issues may be held in place of, or supplement, a regular standing committee meeting.
These meetings and study sessions are open to anyone interested - they are not restricted to CFFO members or invited guests. However, while everyone is welcome to contribute to the discussions, only CFFO members have the right to vote on motions.
These committees, study sessions and ad hoc meetings are all appointed and authorized, as circumstances demand, by Executive Board to tackle the Federation's public policy initiatives, or any other matter deemed necessary. The mandate and governance of each committee is established by Executive Board.
As well, Executive Board established a new standing committee in 2003, a Policy Sub-Committee, to advise the entire Board on the best choices for the CFFO to pursue regarding public policy. Meeting quarterly, the committee puts forward a number of options for new position statements, along with specific research requirements and timeframes.
