CFFO Annual Meeting Sees Board Shuffle

Provincial delegates of the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) met in Waterloo, March 26, for the CFFO’s Annual Meeting.

Clarence Nywening was acclaimed for his fourth one-year term as CFFO President.

Delegates, made up of CFFO district board members, voted in Ed Scharringa as Vice-President. Scharringa previously held the position of Director on the Executive Board. John Kikkert, John Bos and Bethanee Jensen were elected to Director seats. Jensen returns to the board after a one-year hiatus.

In his address, Nywening praised recent government support for agri-businesses through red tape reduction efforts, but reminded listeners that changes should not come at the cost of lowering Ontarians’ environmental and social expectations.

Nywening looks forward to representing the CFFO in working with government to promote a thriving agricultural sector. “As we continue to work together,” said Nywening, “I am certain we will be able to accomplish much in the year to come.”

During the Annual Meeting, attendees were pleased to receive greetings from Randy Pettapiece, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. CFFO members also participated in Farm & Food Care Ontario’s Speak Up! workshop, where they were coached through ways to hold effective conversations around agriculture.
