Mandate / Purpose

The CFFO is an organization with the dual purpose of:

  • enabling farmers to work out their Christian faith in their vocation as citizens,
    and
  • to develop policy applications of the Christian faith to agriculture.

The CFFO's main service or "products" are:

  • Public Policy Development
    and
  • Education/Communication.

Strategic Focus Areas:

1. Public Policy Formation: The CFFO will regularly develop public policies on major, selected issues affecting Ontario agriculture. The CFFO will be intentional about the choice of policies it plans to pursue.

2. Education/Communication: The CFFO will regularly communicate with the farm community, decision makers, the membership, district boards and the general public regarding significant CFFO public policies and activities.

3. Membership Advancement: The CFFO will seek greater membership annually, and will consciously seek to involve the membership in public policy development and/or at the local level.

4. Alternative Vision for Ontario Agriculture: The CFFO will articulate an alternative vision for Ontario agriculture.

Organizational Structure

The formal organizational structure of CFFO consists of:
1. District Associations
2. Standing Committees
3. Provincial Council
4. Executive Board
5. Office Staff

All members belong to one of 21 District Associations, each with its own elected board of directors. Each District Association conducts its own program and activities. District delegates make up the bulk of the membership of the CFFO Provincial Council, and attend Standing Committee meetings.

For detailed information regarding District Association composition, business meetings, nomination and election procedures, duties, representation and committee responsibilities, please refer to Bylaw No.2.

Standing Committees are discussion or "think tank" committees, which prepare recommendations for the CFFO Executive Board and Provincial Council. These recommendations potentially provide the basis of, or contribute to, official federation policy statements. Generally, each of these committees meets from three to six times annually.

Occasionally, Study Sessions or Ad Hoc Meetings focusing on specific issues may be held in place of, or supplement, a regular standing committee meeting.

Provincial Council is the official policy-making body. It deals with major Federation developments, elects Executive Board directors and meets five times per year in the months of January, March, June, and October.

Provincial Council usually meets in the large Gencor Meeting Room at the Gencor-Guelph location.

For detailed information regarding Provincial Council composition and responsibilities, please refer to Bylaw No.2.

Executive Board consists of eight family farmers. This group meets monthly and deals with the day-to-day affairs of the Federation.

For detailed information regarding Executive Board composition, nomination and election procedures, duties, representation and committee responsibilities, please refer to Bylaw No.2.

Office Staff provide policy advisory, administrative and operating support for the Executive Board, Provincial Council, Standing Committees, District Associations and the Annual Convention.
