RE: ERO 019-9517 Proposal to add materials to the Off-Farm Anaerobic Digestion Materials Protocol

Dear Ministry,

The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) is an Accredited Farm Organization representing the interests of over 4,000 farm families in Ontario who are called to the vocation of farming. CFFO policy promotes economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable farming, advocating that farmers receive fair return for their production and stewardship efforts.

The CFFO supports the proposal to allow approved organic waste materials, irrespective of where they are generated, to be used as feedstock for anaerobic digestion via a Regulated Mixed Anaerobic Digestion Facility (RMADF).

It is important that farms receiving such material can be confident of the quality and content, especially if the resulting digestate will be applied to farm fields. In allowing organic waste materials produced off-site to be treated the same as those produced on-site, it is important that regulations ensure that these are free from contaminants.
