Special Economic Zones Act
This Act would allow the government to designate “Special Economic Zones” where the normal laws, regulations and approval processes need not apply. The goal of getting important projects done faster is a good one, but the powers given to government in this Act could easily be misused.
We recommended that government make sure the necessary expertise and resources are in place to more quickly complete the necessary studies, approvals and consultations, rather than avoid them altogether.
