Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario Celebrates Success of Ongoing District AGMs with Focus on Farm Succession Planning

Cambridge, ON [February 12, 2024] — The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) is pleased to announce the resounding success of the first half of District Annual General Meetings (AGMs) held across the province. These meetings have been attended by a robust gathering of CFFO members, local government officials, and community members and have proven to be a pivotal platform for fostering crucial discussions on the future of farming. This year the focus has been on the vital aspect of Farm Succession Planning.

A key highlight of these AGMs has been the insightful presentations by guest speaker Ian Cubitt, Business Transition Coach who renowned for his expertise in Farm Succession Planning. The pressing need for succession planning has become increasingly apparent as the baby boomer generation within the farming community looks toward retirement while aspiring to keep their farms operational for the next generation.
The CFFO has recognized the urgency and importance of this matter and conducted an extensive survey in the fall of 2023, seeking valuable insights from its members. The anonymous survey revealed that many members are in the early stages of succession planning, with a common concern being how to ensure fairness, especially when children have occupations off the farm or lack interest in farming compared to those eager to carry on the agricultural legacy.

Ian Cubitt's presentations during the AGMs have provided a comprehensive understanding of the financial, relational, and logistical challenges associated with farm succession planning. Attendees have been equipped with practical steps and valuable insights to navigate these challenges effectively, ensuring a smooth transition for the future of their farm operations.

CFFO General Manager, Tom Tavani, expressed enthusiasm for the success of the District AGMs, stating, "The overwhelming attendance and engagement at these meetings underscore the importance our members place on planning for the future of their farms. Ian Cubitt's expertise has proven invaluable in addressing the complexities of succession planning, and we are confident that the knowledge gained will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of our members' operations."

The CFFO remains committed to providing resources, support, and a platform for its members to address the evolving landscape of agriculture. The success of the District AGMs reaffirms the organization's dedication to facilitating meaningful conversations and fostering a resilient farming community in Ontario.
